Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Greater St John is our mission to the world. It begins in our own homes and community, and spreads throughout the nation. Greater St. John’s members are involved in a variety of ministries including children ministry (adolescent through teenage) as well as adult ministry.

Bible Study

Home and Foreign Mission

Home and Foreign Mission purpose is to train, educate, and develop believers young and old in mission work.  The purpose of the Home and Foreign Mission is to get  people ready for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Our lessons demonstrate how we are to use our knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to win lost souls to Christ.  The Home and Foreign Mission is not only for the missions field, but also in-house missions.  Missions work has to be done both in our church home and in or mission field.  Our home is where mission starts.  We must seek a relationship with Christ in our home, in our church and in our community.

Prayer and Bible Band

Our Prayer and Bible Band study help members become more familiar with the Bible and learn what is expected of them in their lives as Christians.  Our study help us learn how to love God, others and ourselves.  We open up every session on our knees in prayer.  This method of praying helps members learn humility in prayer.  Prayer is one of the most important things we can do in this life.  Prayer promotes a closer relationship with God.  Through prayer, we learn how to hear from God and follow His lead.

Sunday School

Sunday School is another Bible class that we offer.  The Sunday School class teaches us how to take biblical principles and apply them to our life and our Christian walk.  The Sunday School offers classes for all age groups.  Each class lesson is taught at a level that everyone can understand.

Men’s Department

The Men’s Department at Greater St. John teaches men how to be Godly leaders in the home and in their church.  The men are taught by our Pastor, Doctor Funches in how to take biblical principles and apply them to their own lives so the power of God can transform them into the men that God has called them to be.  God is calling for courageous men to be in the kingdom to be an example of what it means to be a strong man spiritually and naturally.

Music Department

At Greater St. John, we love to worship.  Our Praise Team leads us into worship every service.  It is important for us to invoke the presence of The Lord into every service.  In His presence, people can be healed, delivered, set free and made whole.  Music is an intricate part of our worship experience.  We have been blessed to have a group of extremely gifted musicians and anointed singers who also love the Lord and are dedicated to using their gifts to glorify God.

Women’s Department

Young Women Christian Council

The Young Women Christian Council is an organization within the Church of God in Christ for young women, age 18 – 40 married or single, who want to dedicate themselves to a greater call in ministry.  The Young Women Christian Council offers opportunities for young women to be mentored by the older women in the church.

Christian Women Council

The Christian Women Council purpose is to provide natural and spiritual support for women in the church 41 years of age and above.  The women of the Christian Women Council are challenged to strive for excellence.  These women should challenge and inspire other women to meet God’s standard of Holiness.

Youth Department

Sunshine Band

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  The Sunshine Band is our children’s ministry.  It is geared towards children, ages 1 – 12.  Children are taught basic Bible principles are taught and engaged by involving them in wholesome activities to keep them interested.  The Sunshiners can look forward to arts and crafts activities, music and drama sessions, and field trips.

Our purity class is for teens, ages 13 – 18, where they are taught what is required of them through God’s word.  Purity class is also a class where teens can discuss the issues and challenges they are faced with in their life.  We offer support and guidance for them to keep them on the path of righteousness.   The aim of the purity class has been to help keep in focus the true values of good morals, high standards of living, Christian virtue, and to discourage all forms of vile behavior that violates true Christian virtue.
